Su padre, James Carson Murray, era médico y su madre Marion, era una enfermera registrada que eligió centrarse su vida en levantar a su familia. Anne aprendió su determinación y perseverencia ,características de ella, y ella crecio rodeada por sus cinco hermanos - David, Daniel, Harold, Stewart y Bruce.
